like bacon at a bar mitzvah

For the second time in its 11-year history, Portland was the site of Flugtag (along with Chicago and Tampa Bay). And I got to go. I slept in waking up a few minutes after I had planned to leave the house. Then I had to track down an ATM for some sweet moolah. Then it took forever to find the nearest park-and-ride. In fact, I was heading across town towards a train stop I'm familiar with and away from Portland when I finally found the park-and-ride I was originally looking for. You wouldn't believe how crowded MAX was. I kept thinking of my mom. She woulda been freaking out. haha. In any case, I got to Tom McCall Waterfront Park about 10 minutes before start time. Good news being that I didn't miss any of the action. Bad news being I had to view the action from further than I had wanted. It was still a decent view, though.

If you don't know, Flugtag is an event where teams build "flying" contraptions and pretty much just drive them off a runway into the water and everyone cheers. An estimated 80,000 people came out to cheer for teams sporting themes such as basketball, Chinese takeout, Spaceballs, and Road Runner (a favorite of mine).

What! Joseph Sandiego was late? I can't believe it. What kind of bizzaro world am I living in? Who are you and what have you done to Joseph?
