i'm a troublemaker

I finally got to see Weezer last nite. Vince and his wife picked me up around 6p. We first went to dinner at Daphne's Greek Cafe. I had the calamari plate. It was yummy.

The show was set to start at 7:30p as there were two opening bands - Tokyo Police Club and Angels & Airwaves. In general, Weezer fans have been unimpressed with either band, so I wasn't worried about arriving a little late. I assumed that Tokyo Police Club were going on second because I had heard of them. I was wrong and we arrived in time to hear just a few of their songs. Angels & Airwaves are a "supergroup" made of musicians from other popular groups. Their instrumentation was good, the vocals not. I don't dig the monotone pseudoscream that the young folk do. Whatever.

Weezer played for nearly two hours and played more than 20 songs with a good mix of new cuts and older hits. A local radio station gathered a group of 30 or so local young musicians who joined Weezer for two songs. You shoulda heard the melodica solo on Island In The Sun. The crowd went nuts. I've never been to a show with so many singalong songs. It was fun. Of course, I sang almost every song the last time I saw the Pumpkins...but that's not singalong music. That's just me being a pumpkinhead.

I've put up a list of shows i wouldn't mind catching on my myspace page. Check it out and let me know if you wanna catch a show with me. I'm planning on seeing NIN in December so I can finally cross them off my list of bands to see. Others I must see someday: Aerosmith, Daft Punk, Green Day, Marilyn Manson, Underworld...someday.
